I met with a bunch of other birders at the flooded fields north of the race track arena in Homestead this morning and was lucky to see the beatiful Am. Golden-Plover. Also present were 6+1 Short-billed Dowitchers, 25 Stilt Sandpipers and many Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers. I saw one Western, the others had earlier seen more. Glossy and White Ibises also around, as well as noisy Black-winged Stilts. As we discussed the absence of Pectoral Sandpiper a group of nine suddenly arrived and joined the other shorebirds. Cool!
The presently non-constructed field east of Doral Middle School is also partly flooded and produced today the follwing: Greater (4) and Lesser (2) Yellowlegs, Black-necked Stilts (5), Solitary Sandpiper (2), Spotted Sandpiper (4), Least Sandpiper (3) and an extremely pale Tricolored Heron. The number and diversity of birds at this place might not be as impressive as the productive Homestead fields, but considering the size of this schoolyard-to-be, itīs not bad. Bonus is that there are a lot of Common Night-Hawks to be seen, and a reluctant-to-move Loggerhead Shrike on the fence along the NW 50 St. Thanks David et al for showing me the Am Golden-Plover, certainly a nice bird! /Henrik
