After talking with Alex yesterday afternoon and hearing about the large numbers of Blue Grosbeak that had arrived a few days ago in the panhandle, I decided to check the C-357 Sparrow Fields to see if any of the grosbeaks decided to make an early stop in Miami-Dade. Birding was excellent with a mixture of migrants and many lingering surprises:

Snowy Egret (1 hunting in small puddle by berm)
Barn Swallow (1 flying low, heading north)
Eastern Towhee (3)
Savannah Sparrow (11)
Clay-colored Sparrow (1 at original berm site, 3 at mound area)
Grasshopper Sparrow (1 at berm area)
White-crowned Sparrow (4, at original berm area)
Lincoln's Sparrow (1 in mound area)
Blue Grosbeak (2 in mound area)
Painted Bunting (3)
Indigo Bunting (4)
Dickcissel (1 female bird with clean, unstreaked breast with pale yellow patch just below the throat, pale bill...mound area)
