The Downy woodpecker remains in my back yard, enjoying the suet. But the news is- he is pecking on a dead ficus branch in my ficus hedge. It took me a day or two to locate the "tapper" but I saw him!
He starts late in the afternoon and goes for about an hour ( I guess it's tiring) but has definitely carved out a few holes.
Shouldn't he be packing up and heading north about now?
