I went to the C-357 Canal this morning and ran into Toe, Paul Bithorn and Bryant Roberts at dawn. The area is still producing many good sparrows. We didn't find the Song Sparrow, but we did have 4-5 Clay-colored, 6-8 White-crowned, a few Grasshopper Sparrows and several Savannahs. We also had Towhees, Meadowlark and several Northern Bob-white....
As we were leaving "Paul the Great" saw a large cat on the road that goes due east as you walk into the area past the two burms. We first thought it may be a Bobcat, but it had a long tail that hung low to the ground.... Maybe a Panther, but we didn't get a good enough look to be sure. The color was good but it was hard to judge size from about 500 yards.
It was a lot of fun to bird on a beautiful morning with some good friends.
