Today I led a trip down to Ohio Key for the birding festival in Marathon. We had the expected species of shorebirds in fair numbers, but the highlight was a WESTERN KINGBIRD on a fence at the west end of the lagoon right at the side of the highway.
Another roadside goody was an AMERICAN AVOCET at the Marathon Airport (my first for the keys). It was in puddles near US1 at the west end of the airport with some Blue-winged Teal and Cattle Egrets.
