Today, March 24th, I guided some visiting Ohio birder friends to points in Eastern Collier County and Hendry County. On the huge ranch on the south side of CR833 going toward the big turn (south?) that is Snake Rd./Government Rd, we found an Upland Sandpiper. This ranch is (north?) before the turnoff to CR835. Of course we were coming from Naples so bear that in mind. There aren't any landmarks around that area to give a reference. Anyway, I have only seen a few Upland Sandpipers in late winter/early spring in Florida (Dry Tortugas) and that was basically in mid-April. This is my earliest record for Upland Sandpiper in Florida and a new county bird to boot! There were also Burrowing Owls out in the ranch land.
