A Black Rail was calling north of the C loop in the Flamingo Campground north of the C 11-22 sign around sunset Sunday 3/21, and again early this morning. Later this morning I also heard another Black Rail call from the east end of the sparrow fields north of the Coastal Prairie Trail and a couple more calling from the west end. The calling continued through mid-morning possibly because of the overcast rainy weather.

Other interesting sightings from the weekend included several Swainson s Hawks sparing over the Lucky Hammock area, an early or possibly overwintering Swainson s Thrush near the tree line north of the parking area at Royal Palm Hammock, and a Whimbrel among the flock of Willets, Marbled Godwits, and other shorebirds along the shoreline at the Walk-in Camping area at Flamingo on Saturday 3/20. On the morning of Sunday 3/21 there was a Clay-colored Sparrow on the north side of Eco Pond in the company of several Painted Buntings and a couple of Orange-crowned Warblers.
