I sometimes watch herons and related birds (IOC now has pelicans, cormorants, herons, ibis and spoonbills all in the same order Pelecaniformes) swallow very large fish, and wonder how they decide if something is too large. I took this photo at Wakodahatchee four days ago and wonder if this heron had bigger eyes than throat.
