A pair (male and female) of rufous hummingbirds were seen at Castellow Hammock Park on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (September 27-29) by myself and other observers. They frequent the flowers of necklace pod and firebush on the north side of the park (north of the nature center). There have also been summer tanager, short-tailed hawk, merlin, Cooper's hawk, painted buntings, and lots of warblers (including a cerulean). The park is located at 22301 SW 162 Avenue. If the park gate is locked park on the south side of the gate and walk in anytime from dawn to dusk. The park phone number is 305-242-7688 if you need directions.
