Hoping that the fallout gods would leave the west coast and come over here for a change, I went to Barnes with the rain this afternoon. Bill's impressive numbers of ovenbirds and Swainson's thrushes were still around, as well as the veery.
I couldn't find the Swainson's warbler, but was able to add Blackburnian and chestnut-sided (near the fountain)to the list. I doubt that today's rain brought in anything new, but if it continues tonite...
: A Swainson's warbler was one of 10 species of warbler seen at Barnes this morning in about an hour of birding. The Swainson's was in the area between the path and the fence on the park-side path, just where it joins the outer path before the platform area in the Nature Center.
: Other warblers were: Ovenbird (at least 3 dozen), BT Blue, Parula, Yellowthroat, Yellow-throated, Tennessee, Redstart, Worm-eating, and B&W.
: Also seen were Summer Tanager, Chuck-will's-widow, Veery, and at least 2 dozen Swainson's Thrushes. (Looked for his hawk, too, for the sweep, but no luck...)
