Took advantage of a beautiful day and a "forced vacation day" to go to these two parks. First headed to Matheson in hopes of maybe getting the Brown-Crested Flycatcher. No flycatcher but had a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker acting aggressive towards a Red-bellied Woodpecker, tree full of Cedar Waxwings, flyby Yellow-chevroned parakeets, a single male Purple Martin flying overhead, Cooper's Hawk, Kestrel, E. Phoebe, Gnatcatchers, White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, a noisy Hill Myna and the following warblers: Black-and-white, N. Parula, Yellow-rumped, Prairie and a female Black-throated Green. This was all by the grove of trees by the parking lot. Service Rd. was quiet.
AD Barnes was next and had much activity. Started with a male Cardinal singing as I got out of my car, then a dark Short-tailed Hawk soaring overhead along with Black/Turkey Vultures and a single Anhinga. The pine area was quiet and only had a Catbird that fed in the open. The hammock area was best and had: Yellow-throated Vireo (even heard it sing, practicing I guess), a Hermit Thrush (was a lifer for me a couple of days ago at Matheson), Gnatcatchers, a tree with many Cedar Waxwings, and the following warblers: Prairie Warbler, American Redstart (female), Yellow-rumped Warblers (many), Pine Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Palm Warbler, N. Parula and a male Black-throated Green Warbler.
