The Harlequin Duck at Sebastian Inlet State Park was present at around 12:00 this afternoon. I spotted it along the rocks west of the bridge on the southern section of the park. My girlfriend Alicia Gerrety and two birders from Maine were able to see the bird as well. I did not see the Purple Sandpiper, but that may have been partly due to lack of effort.
At about 4:30, I also relocated the first winter (male?) Common Eider at Pelican Harbor in Miami. We walked out on the long outermost dock that protects the harbor, through massive amounts of cormorant and gull whitewash and watched the eider feed to east amongst the anchored sailboats. It remained near the single blue sailboat, feeding on whatever was clinging to the boat. I'm guessing barnacles. The Red-footed Booby was seen at its usual roost, atop the cages at the seabird station.
