Folks, I should know better, I'm not a novice. The bird I saw could possibly have been something other than a Black Swift. As Blake pointed out in an email below, the possibilities range from the likely (a very early Chimney Swift that looked and flew different) to the unlikely (see Blake's email).

Bottom line is I could not identify the bird and although I still believe it was something unusual, objective reasoning leads to the following conclusion: unidentified swift spp.

The subjective part of me tried to match it with the closest thing I could think of. I apologize. Fortunately, I don't think any harm was done since this is a great place to bird and folks are still coming up with good stuff.
