I birded the SFWMD scrubby area and field to the west of the C357 canal this morning. There is a parking area a few hundred feet west of the canal on SW 168th St. From the parking area I walked south to the dyke and then west along the field's edge. In addition to the every day stuff, I had the birds listed below.

Painted Bunting (7)
Indigo Bunting (2)
Savannah Sparrow (10)
Grasshopper Sparrow (8)
Chipping Sparrow (3)
Orange-crowned Warbler (1)
W. Kingbird (1)
Rufous-sided Towhee (2)
Swainson's Hawk (1)

In what is becoming a recurring theme, I saw the skeletal remains of three very large snakes (5-7 feet). I also saw three large dead snakes on the border of the field across 9336 from Lucky Hammock. My sense is that these all may be pythons that have died from the cold. The habitat was nearly identical....open field/brush area bordering the everglades.
