I spent the whole day at Everglades National Park on Monday, concentrating around Anhinga Trail, Gumbo Limbo, Gate 15, and Research Road. Sunrise at Research Road and sunset at Anhinga Trail.
Highlights on Research Road:
Wild Turkey (heard calling at the old missile base at dawn)
Northern Harrier (2)
Cooper's Hawk (1 at old missile base)
Barred Owl (heard calling at the old missile base at dawn)
Common Ground-Dove (4 at first bend in road beyond pinelands)
Four woodpecker species (Northern Flicker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker) all in pinelands area)
Western Kingbird (1 in building area)
Eastern Bluebird (2 seen, many heard in pinelands)
American Robin (50+ flock all along the road in a mad feeding frenzy)
Brown-headed Nuthatch (1, heard only in pinelands)
Highlights at Gate 15:
Three duck species (Mottled Duck, Ring-necked Duck, Red-breasted Merganser)
Least Bittern (one bird seen/flushed)
Northern Harrier (1)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1)
Limpkin (2)
Greater Yellowlegs (2)
Caspian Tern (1)
Marsh Wren (1)
Highlights on Gumbo Limbo:
White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos
Cedar Waxwings (18)
Black-throated Green, Yellow-throated, Worm-eating, Black-and-white, Prairie, and Yellow-rumped Warblers plus Northern Parula
Highlights on Anhinga Trail at dusk:
American Bittern (2)
Snail Kite (2)
King Rail (heard only)
Sora (heard only)
Purple Gallinule (6!)
Smooth-billed Ani (continuing bird, extremely tame)
American Robins (small flocks flying south overhead)
Northern Waterthrush (couple birds in the willow thickets along the cement path)
For a total of 75 species seen, plus an additional six species heard only. No Swallow-tailed Kites quite yet!

p.s. At a quick stop at Hidden Lake Road after hiking Gate 15, I heard the La Sagra's Flycatcher in the area where it was originally first observed in December. Two of these birds are in Miami-Dade at the same time!
