Swung by Lucky Hammock this afternoon and decided to park my truck on the north shoulder of SR9336. The heavy use of machinery in the Frog Pond area is keeping the raptor activity high in the fallow fields to the north of SR9336, although some raptors were observed in the fields surrounding Lucky Hammock.

Birds seen:
Red-shouldered Hawk (Lucky Hammock)
Short-tailed Hawk (Lucky Hammock)
Swainson's Hawk (north fields)
Broad-winged Hawk (north fields)
Red-tailed Hawk (north fields)
Northern Harrier (Lucky Hammock and north fields)
American Kestrel (Lucky Hammock and north fields)

Aerial disputes observed:
Swainson's Hawk vs. Broad-winged Hawk
Northern Harrier vs. Red-tailed Hawk

Really nice comparisons between all these species.

Notable birds seen at Lucky Hammock:
Blue-headed Vireo

at Glenn Garrett Park:
Blue-headed Vireo

It was afternoon after all...next time I'll bring a lawn chair to watch the hawk show.

Cheers and bird hard,
RJ
