Between 1:40PM - 2:30PM, I birded Cutler Wetlands to see the waterfowl and shorebirds Bill Boeringer had reported earlier. Most of the ducks were in the area visible from the apartment complex, which included:
Mottled Duck
Northern Shoveler
American Wigeon
Blue-winged Teal
Green-winged Teal
The shorebirds were another matter altogether, as they were very distant and could barely make them out with binoculars. I did not have a scope.
From the weedy brush on the southwestern edge of the wetlands, I heard the characteristic, sharp "wit" call of a Least Flycatcher. With some patience, I was briefly able to observe it. New bird for Cutler Wetlands?
I also observed a Peregrine Falcon stooping on a Eurasian Collared-Dove (and missed).
