Sixteen birders joined me for today's TAS trip to Harold Campbell Public Use Area in southern Palm Beach County. We stopped first at the overlook on Holeyland Road, just west of US 27, where we were treated to up-close looks at feeding Snail Kites. At the PUA, bird numbers and diversity were down from my visit last month, but we still had plenty to keep us occupied during our three-hour walk. The smell from a significant fish die-off in one of the impoundments kept us moving quickly through that area, though. On the way back to Miami, about half the group stopped at Chapel Trail Nature Preserve and Southwest Regional Library, both on Sheridan Street in Pembroke Pines. A pair of Sandhill Cranes were along Sheridan Street just west of Chapel Trail.
