Thanks, all. I think Bill got it - these calls were familiar and it's all coming back to me now -trips along Loop Rd., where of course the Great Cresteds are all over. At least I got a chance to SEE them there!
As talented as the local Blue Jays are, this is not in their repertoire ;) Hawks, yes, door bell chimes, squeaky hinges, all that and more, but not a WHEEP!!! like this!
OK - Joel and other Broward area birders - check out Woodmont for these beauties. Hope you have better luck than I. Look for a pair of Tanagers as well.
