I took a few students out in kayaks in FL bay yesterday. We did not get too far--nowhere near the Flamingo area--but we were all thrilled at the birds, especially for me the marbled godwits, a life bird for my modest list (there were also hundreds of willets, the only other shorebird seen).
One of the group discovered an odd tubular or snakelike animal that seemed to be dead. The tubular body (maybe 1" diameter) had ribs at short, regular intervals along as much of its length as we saw. Does anyone know what this is?
