Today, I briefly paid a visit to Kendale Lakes Park to see if I could relocate the Summer Tanager or Nashville Warbler I had seen in late December. Unfortunately, neither were to be found. Instead, I had a small flock of Cedar Waxwings feeding in an almost bare fig tree near the playground. Amongst the waxwings was a relatively drab Cape May Warbler fiercely protecting "its tree" from the Palm Warblers.
Fieldmarks included pale yellow wash on the breast with thick bold streaking, pale edging to the greater coverts (not true wing bars), and hints of yellow around the sides of the neck. The bird also had a thin, very bright yellow streak of color on the malars.
A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was also located associating with a Black-and-white Warbler.
