Paul:

It may be painful for you to hear this, but those guys from Gainesville dubbed the bird a "Gatorquit" because of their significant involvement in its discovery, relocation, etc. I guess it made them feel better after their team's loss the previous evening (Sept. 6).

Good luck on Thursday. At least, in your lonely vigil, you don't have to deal with crowds out there (skeeters notwithstanding).

: Dear Fellow Birders,

: You may have already guessed, by the Subject matter, that my 9th attempt to see the Black-faced Grassquit was unsuccesful.

: Turkey Vultures now seem to steer clear of me, while I wander aimlessly in search of this no good, slime suckin', mealy-mouthed, son of a female bird.Even the Faithful Beauty Moths were unfaithful this morning during my pre-work jaunt between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

: It has been suggested that the Gator Nation has placed a curse on me due to the fact that I had previously stated that "Will Rogers never met a Gator." Bryant Roberts, a Gator, found the bird; Gator faithful, R.D. Wallace, John Hintermeister, et al. found the bird with relative ease and Dotty Robbins, a Gainsevillian, relocated the bird, when many felt that he may have departed. Maybe some of their luck will rub off on Ron Zook and the hapless Gator football team. They could sure use it. In the words of Ross Perot, "I keep hearing these sucking noises." I'd rather have a root canal than be a Florida Gator.

: The highlight of today's excercise in futility was finding a third color form of Liguus fasciatus tree snail in one of the hammocks.

: Life is good.........................knowing that I will make yet a 10th valiant attempt on Thursday morning.
