We saw the Common Eider on Monday during the late afternoon hours in the same area as described by several others. When we first located the bird it was looking for a meal under the docks of the private residences along the western seawall. We drove over to the 96st. bay access area where we would set up to scan for the bird. Mariel scanned the bay and found a large, stocky duck halfway between us and the Marina; she called me over to take a look and there it was just sitting on the water! The duck sat there for a bit and then lifted off and flew towards the marina docks where the construction is taking place. While in flight the long sloped forehead looked so cool as it flew slow and low to the water; what an awesome bird to see in Miami and a great addition to our Miami-Dade county list.

Nature is Awesome
