The Common Eider was seen around 10:15 this morning. First, I drove to the end of NE 88th Street and did not find the bird as I scanned and scoped the bay from the seawall. Then I hopped back into my car and drove to Pelican Harbor. There I bumped into Audrey from North Carolina. We covered the areas mentioned in yesterday s post. In a spot in between the funky awning and Pelican Harbor Marina, Audrey set up her scope. Shortly after she found the eider swimming and feeding along the western shore moving south. Look for the huge red and white FOR SALE BY OWNER sign along the seawall. We enjoyed great looks through the scope for several minutes. It then flew north along the western shore past the canal mouth. We last saw it disappear near the NE 96th street waterfront area. A Life bird for me and 3 out of 3 target birds for Audrey; her first and second being the Western Tanager and Red-footed Booby earlier in the morning.
