A total of 29,124 individuals of 133 species were tallied during the Coot Bay/Everglades National Park Christmas Bird Count, held on January 2. Northern Gannet, Rock Pigeon (!) and Brown-crested Flycatcher were recorded for the first time. New high counts were obtained for Turkey Vulture, Short-billed Dowitcher and Great Horned Owl.
Many thanks to the 34 birders who assisted with this count, especially those who sacrificed their shoes for the cause (it was a little muddy in spots).
