The Kendall CBC was held on December 26, 2009.The "lucky 13" valiant participants, working in generally undermanned teams, enjoyed great weather and a fun day in the field. A total of 125 species were found; we also had 12 species of exotics (and another count week), and 3 Count Week species (Bonaparte s Gull, Shiny Cowbird, Baltimore Oriole). There were no outstanding rarities, but we did add a new species to the all-time count (Marsh Wren), our first count-day House Finches, and several new exotics.

The 5 most common birds seen were: Laughing Gull (4,476), Starling (3,232), White Ibis (2,765), Ring-billed Gull (1,413), and Turkey Vulture (1,060). Our overall numbers were comparable to prior counts.

A special thanks to all the participants, whose efforts were really needed this year:
Team Matheson (Jeff Weber, Miguel Padura, Ross Hancock)
Team Deering (Trey Mitchell, Bill Searcy, Ernie Lent, and John O Leary)
Team Black Point (Roberto Torres, Paul Bithorn)
Team Barnes (Carlos Sanchez, Elsa Alvear)
Team Kendall (Steven Paez)
Team Thompson (me).

Also thanks to Wil Domke, Roxanne Featherly and Kevin Sarsfield for their yard counts, and thanks once again to the folks at Fairchild Gardens and Deering Estate for allowing access to our teams.

Stay thirsty, my friends...
