Red-footed Boobies and Kingsnakes

I spent the entire day in the "Cane Fields" around South Bay and Clewiston. Two friends and I were on the search for Florida Kingsnakes, which we found right off the bat.

While out there, I called Pelican Harbor Seabird Station to ask a few questions about the booby. A young woman said the bird was released two weeks ago. It washed up on a local beach. The bird returns to beg during the day, but it is mostly feeding naturally. Additionally, it roosts away from the seabird station. It sounds like it is roosting on the spoil island I mentioned in my post last night. They are not going to recapture the bird for release on the ocean. It is on it's own, and has been for some time now. It will go onto my list with an asterisk.

Back to the Cane Fields. We had many birds, especially near Holyland Road along US-27. There are ramps leading up to STA-3/4 which allow access to levees overlooking the wetlands. Many, many birds, but I was looking for Rough Green Snakes. Roseate Spoonbills, White Pelicans, many distant ducks, at least 10,000 Tree Swallows, many Swamp Sparrows. This are needs to be explored. After all, it is an STA.
