Philip and I left early this morning in hopes of seeing a Short-eared Owl and then perhaps the La Sagra's Flycatcher. We searched several areas near Lucky Hammock but we could not find any owls. We then drove to the Hidden Lake road where Robin and Carlos had the La Sagra's Flycatcher. We arrived about 7:15, we left at 8:45. We did not see or hear the bird, I wish we had stayed until 9:00 as we may have seen the Florida Panther! Oh well, we both have seen one before at least.

I was hoping to get Philip his life A.B.A La Sagra's Flycatcher since he has seen them in the Bahamas. He was at A.D. Barnes park when he was about 2-years old when there was one there. He was a little to young to be able to point the bird out.

Feeling a little down from this mornings search, I looked out into the back yard and found Philip's life Rufous Hummingbird! He was pretty excited about this and so was I. This was a new yard bird and a very pretty one at that. Perhaps we should have just stayed home this morning!

Perhaps with a little better weather the La Sagra's will show up again.

If anyone is interested in seeing the Rufous Hummingbird, please contact me.
