Since there has been so much feedback on three of my sightings over the weekend I thought I'd better submit a follow up. Here's what I recall.
Song Sparrow. Single bird facing me perched in a tree on the east side of the road at Lucky Hammock
about 50 feet in around 745am. Head markings, large breast spot and size all consistant with Song Sparrow. To be truthful I didnt pay it much attention at the time as it's a yard bird for me. Not until later did I realise it's a good bird in S. Florida. With that knowledge I'm willing to be proven wrong.
Wilson's Phalarope. Five birds at the deck at Snake Bight. High tide, shoreline possibly 100 yards away, birds 30 feet out on the water. Around 130pm. Spinning on the water consistant with phalarope behaviour which is what drew my attention. Although backlit they appeared to have white faces and eyeline. Bill length in relation to head indicated Wilson's. I stand by this one.
Eastern Kingbird. No question. Mahogany Hammock around 3:30-4 pm. I was first attracted by its loud call as it flew overhead. A couple of minutes later I saw it perched overhead for a good view of its underparts before it flew again and landed about 15 feet away from me at eye-level giving me excellent views. 100% Eastern Kingbird. Absolutely no doubt about this.
Anyway, hope this helps. Feel free to contact me on my e-mail if you have further questions.
