I went this morning to find the Limpkin Alex heard the other day at Royal Palm. I arrived about 6:15 am and drove along the road going to Royal Palm slowly listening for Limpkin. Near the turn off to Research Rd. I stopped got out and listened a little while and heard King Rail then saw a Limpkin in flight then heard it call.
I then went to Research Rd. between the two bends in the road and found 2 White-tailed Kite, Marsh Wren and a Short-eared Owl. I observed the Short-eared Owl with my scope as it was flying in the distance to the southwest of the mound to the West.
I also found Common Yellow-throat, Palm, Yellow Rump and a Prairie Warbler near the road in the same area. The Tree Swallows were moving north in that area in groups of 5-10 in a steady stream. I saw a flock of Yellowlegs flying from one spot to the other along Research Rd as well. I don't recall ever seeing that before. It may be due to the high water levels in the park. Other expected birds were seen as well. I left the park and stopped at Luck Hammock for minute, but saw little there except doves.
