Went to Key West this yesterday, not really birding but hanging out with the family. Brought my binoculars anyway. On the drive there had Ospreys, Belted Kingfishers, Laughing, Herring and Ring-Billed Gulls, DC Cormorants, Reddish Egret, Great White Heron, Red-Shouldered Hawk, tons of Turkey Vultures.
At Key West had both dark and light Short-Tailed Hawks circling over the city. An exciting moment was when a Cooper's Hawk went for one of the local feral Red Junglefowls. What a ruckus the fowls made. Sounded like a bunch of hysterical ladies. The presence of humans saved the intended victim since the hawk deviated from its course at the last second as the intended victim ran towards some people. The hawk perched on a wire overhead and just stared at the lucky hen and afterwards flew away.
