Who says never the twain shall meet? Well Tropical and South Florida birders joined on a cloudy morning at the Snake Warrior Island Natural Area. All seemed pleased with this new birding destination and easy trail that bring wading birds up close. Everyone had good looks at Purple Gallinules and Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. A few warblers (6) feed in the Scarlet Bush near the parking lot including Northern Parula, Prairie, and Black & White. A Cooper's Hawk flew over close giving us a chance to see it's scalloped tail and extended neck. A rare chance to go into the closed Miramar Pinelands produced both Royal and Caspian Terns. All 3 Falcons were present for a good field study. The walking on the sugar sand was a little tough, and the gulls from the dump did not appear. Promises! Promises! With the exception of one Ring-necked Duck which only the leader saw and our Mottled Ducks, the waterfowl were nowhere to be seen. So the last stop at the Sheridan St. wetlands was a bust excepted for a Northern Harrier. My count was 59 species although I might have missed a few others saw. John Hutchinson said "it was worth the price of admission just to see the Peregrine Falcon dive bombing the Caspian Tern". WOW!! I didn't count that chickadee though John. The day ended with many visiting 3 new birding spots and barbeque for all. See you next with new places to explore.
