Late Afternoon on Sunday--STA 1 east was very slow--highlight was one roseate spoonbill and a pair of caspian terns. I forget how big they are.

later still--STA 1 west was VERY birdy-- big rafts of coots, blue wing teal, ring neck/scaup. Coots numbered at least 1,000. Add to that several hundred swallows swooping everywhere. Most seemed to be tree swallows and northern rough wing. One purple swamphen in addition to the usual suspects. Most of the rafts of birds spooked very easily. I suggest a scope if you've got one.

A great afternoon of birding...all with the sweet smell of sugarcane harvest in the air.
