The lone avocet was still there at Cutler Wetland, I got there around 10:30 am I think. I saw the same flock of Short-billed Dowitchers and a large flock of coots. But then something really interesting happened: while looking through the scope at the shorebirds, I heard the flapping of a large flock, so I looked up and a large bird was flying close to the water... was it a Turkey Vulture... NO, it was a juvenile Bald Eagle! All the shorebirds flew away as he landed near where they had been, very close to me. He pretended to be a wading bird for a few minutes, drank water twice, gave me the eagle eye and then flew off. I tried to use my cell phone camera to digiscope but it came out lousy. Note to self: remember camera. Oh and there was a Great White Heron very close to the edge and a Snowy Egret near the apartments hidden in the weeds. I'll be back tomorrow.
