When you get to the park proceed past the campground entrance and go to the Headquarters Building (where the giant U.S. flag is). Go inside and pick up the Fort De Soto County Park bird checklist. Inside the 20-page "free" booklet is a map, current checklist, and descriptions of places to bird within the park.

Currently, the shorebirding at North Beach is very good, an adult Broad-winged Hawk has been seen near the HQ building, and quite a few wintering passerines are hanging out in the Australian pines within the North Beach picnic area.
