We witnessed an intersting interacion at Hoechoka Hammock between an Eastern phoebe and a Rufous sided humminbird. Early morning, 9:10, dew still on the grass and the phobe was posted in a pongam tree dropping down to pick a bug from the grass. Then, phoebe style, back to the same branch same place. Suddenly a hummer comes into view and "attacked" the phoebe! Wow! Attack of the killer hummers!

The phoebe gave away and no matter where it went the hummer pursued it...buzz...buzz..attack attack. I have never seen this conduct before. There were no flowers around so food wasn't the source of agitation. And hummers don't go to the grass to eat bugs bugs. So what gives? Just a bad day for the hummer?
