Low tide this morning and strong winds the last 3 days, so I was there at dawn. The Baird's was last seen along the high-water mark just north of lifeguard shack #10. It was associating with 3 Semi Plovers. I don t know where it flew to, since both sandcrawlers (big machines that pick up sand, and drop it back again: brilliant!) came by and made several passes. The big one started to fill in the creek in the sand that formed from all the rain we had, and this is exactly where the sandpiper was seen last! AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! On top of that, there was an army of idiots walking up and down the beach that, although they could walk 20 feet farther away from the water and not disturb the birds, decided they HAD to walk right over the birds so they could see them fly (as Daffy Duck said: shoot me now!). The entire flock of birds in that area, which included over 100 B-B Plovers, SB Dowitchers, Sanderlings, and others, must have been flushed over 10 times while I was there. No sign of any AMGP or Red Knots, but I did have a Common Tern make a landing for a short while.
