Inspired by my good friend, Jeff Weber's, post from yesterday, I attempted to locate the Yellow-bellied Flycatcher found by Toe on Sunday, the 10th. Arriving at 10:00 a.m. I immediately heard the bird calling south of the bathrooms. I had to wait for a couple of lovebirds to clear the area before locating the bird in the same area as Jeff saw it yesterday - in the oak tree just north of the most northern shelter and directly above a hose bibb mounted on on a small post. The bird called constantly as it fed. The orange lower mandible is quite striking.
This species has been on my wishlist for many mango seasons and is a lifebird/statebird. My celebratory libation shall be a Samuel Adams Oktoberfest, which has five different malted barleys. Life is good........... and remember - "Those who hesitate are not always lost."
