Hey Marc:
The Richard ffrench/John O'Neill "A Guide to the Birds of Trinidad and Tobago" is very thorough and a classic, but it is a brick to carry around. You can buy a "split" edition from the Audubon Shop in Madison, CT, where they take out the color plates and rebind them, so you only have to carry the color plates in the field.
There is also the "Field Guide to the Birds of Trinidad and Tobago" by Martyn Kenefick, Robin Restall, and Floyd Hayes. The art is not as good, and the info is less thorough, but you can carry it with you and not have to see a chiropractor afterwards.
