We were fortunate during today's TAS walk at Matheson Hammock to see the Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, previously seen on Thursday, and this time it was not only very cooperative, but it also called. A couple of folks got photos and video. It was seen several times in the oak hammock just south of the bathroom in the east side picnic area. Enter from Old Cutler Road and park in the parking spaces on the left. Walk down the paved path, past a stone shelter to your left, and look for a sign that reads bathrooms". The flycatcher was first seen in the oaks just south of the bathroom, it then flew east to the mangroves near the water, then worked its way back to the oaks, stopping in the various tree islands along the way. I just saw it again as I was leaving directly south of the bathroom over the dirt path. There is a Least Flycatcher in the area, and at one point we had them in close proximity, allowing for an excellent comparison between the two species.
We had other good birds during the morning, including a fly-over Mizzippi Kite, and a gorgeous male Wilson's Warbler on the service road west of Old Cutler Road (across from the Fairchild Gardens entrance). The Wilson's was in the area of tall Gumbo Limbos about 200 past the gate to the service road. I'll let Rock post the complete list.
