So did I at first, But actually in the inside of tropical hardwood hammocks they can be common and easy to find. Many times I've found them when they forage in dead leaves that are still on shrubs in the understory. Also I've found one wintering in the hammock at Viscaya several times in the last 11 years. Neat little bird.
