Crandon Beach continues to offer large numbers and diversity of shorebirds and gulls. On Thursday there were 14 Great Black-backed Gulls, the highest number (for me) at this location. Lesser Black-backed numbers remain ~ 25-35. The wintering Piping Plover wintering flock is building and is now 24 birds. A Marbled Godwit and Red Knots show up periodically. Jim King and staff are monitoring the beach area and like me, are always sifting through the 200+ Black-bellied Plovers, looking for an American Golden-Plover. The best shorebirding is ~ 1 hour after tide begins receding.

Cape Florida has usual September Carribean passerine migrants, with Hooded, Blackburnian and Chestnut-sided Warblers making a good showing. Cape Mays are arriving and I had a FOS Palm Warbler on Friday.

I spotted 2 Red-whiskered Bulbuls on the wires at SW 61 Avenue, ~ 1/2 block south of US 1. It seems like an unusual spot for them.
