Evergreen Cemetery was very busy today. The north winds did not blow the warblers away. I went last night about 7:00 and was very frustrated that I could not get in, even prowling around all the edges. Why lock in dead people? But I did see two beautiful female Baltimore Orioles. Back today at 11:00 and immediately found a mixed flock which I followed moving slowly north for over an hour.
This kept me busy:
Northern Parula (1)
Yellow Warbler (2!)
Black and White (many)
Redstart (many)
Prothonotary (1)
Ovenbird (1)
Worm-eating (MANY)
Orange-crowned (quite sure) (1)
Blue gray gnatcatchers
Good looks at a flycatcher, pretty sure it's a first year Willow. It was not a Least.
The birds were so closely packed that several times I had four in my binoculars at a time. (It's hell getting them out of there).
While watching this a Cooper's hawk glided by just over the ground and about 6 feet from my ankle. There was also a lovely Cardinal family with two youngsters, male and female still being fed. And a blue jay family with funny looking half grown babies. Also a yellow crowned night heron and cormorant.
Crowded hour!
