This morning I ventured out to Barnes and found five warbler species in the nature center: Redstart, N. Parula, Prairie, Black and White, and Ovenbird. I flushed a Chuck-will's-widow (not a grumpy one)and heard a Cooper's Hawk. A couple flocks of silhouetted parakeets flew over; not sure what species they were. Many Blue-gray Gnatcathers flitted about. Also found a Red-eyed Vireo and 2 empids. I only had a quick glance at one that had a big head and big eye.....Least. The second one I had more time to look at as it sallied for insects and then perched and preened on a pine limb (near the water fountain falls). It had wing bars, lacked a prominent eye ring, very pale yellowish, pale gray streaky breast and made a liquid whit call. My guess would be Willow Flycatcher. Then it was off to Fairchild's to look for the Golden-wing. Bumped into Bob and Alice and Snow Goose Bonnie who found a magical spot on the other side of plot 45. Here is located a tree-like bush loaded with red berries and warblers: Black-throated Blue (female), Worm-eating, Black and White, Prairie, and a female Prothonotary. More Ovenbirds and Blue-gray Gnatcathers were heard and seen. Bonnie and I heard a Downy Woodpecker and she had seen a Brown Thrasher earlier.
