I hi-tailed it up to the spot on Brown's Farm Road Sunday to try for the Northern Phalarope seen Saturday. Although the fields were wet, there was no obvious phalarope-friendly water. Plenty of birds, mostly yellowlegs, dowitchers and peep. The pumps were going full blast. I returned today, same spot, and found it almost dry. A few of those linear puddles, the kind that attract Wood Storks, egrets and Spoonbills. Zilcho shorebirds. I never realized that those fields could be drained so fast. Then main canal, paralleling the road, was actually flowing like a river. Never saw that before either. I hope all the sea creatures appreciate all the lovely nutrients they are about to get.
