A quick stop in Everglades National Park this evening found huge numbers of Eastern Kingbirds. I saw a few small flocks (5-6 birds) pass through the pinelands, but the best was in the sawgrass marsh as I exited the park. I noticed a couple dozen near the roadside both perched and chasing insects, but when I scanned farther out it was obvious that there were at least 150-200 Eastern Kingbirds. I'm quite sure there were many more if I could have surveyed the entire area. These were joined by a couple dozen Barn Swallows and the regular Great White Heron that likes to fish near the bridge.
