At the Palm Bay exit off 95 a few weeks ago , we stopped for a fast food run at Wendys. 2 Sandhills swooped out of the sky and began a measured tread toward us across a field, loudly calling. They did not stop until they had crossed a side street (!) and were 4 feet from us. We realized (by the unsubtle actions of a local deposting fries on the ground across another street!) that these cranes are used to being fed by people on fast food. Gross!!!! But they were very beautiful to see, hear and observe at such close range for a good length of time.
