Just read the recent posts by Larry Manfredi and Bill Pranty regarding more cowbird sitings. Is it accurate to say that cowbird population increases are in part due to man's destruction of different eco-systems, deforestation and fragmentation, creation of ag lands and pastures from forested areas, creating more edges where cowbirds live and allowing new and easy penetration into forest edges? and that cowbirds are raised by other species, causing the death of the foster parent's chicks and moderate to steep declines in different song bird populations? if so, wouldn't more cowbirds be ominous? I know there are leagues of folks out there who trap them and cook them up with house sparrows.
