Last night migrants were back on the move with the biggest movement we have seen since Aug. 13th. With upper level winds helping birds south migrants decided to take flight last night making good ground. The general trend was birds flying from NW -> SSE; with birds moving NW -> SSW further down the state. Migrants were picked up by all three major radars in the northern portions of the state as birds streamed overhead. Radars in the central portion of the state displayed birds moving through on their way south as well. The Everglades City radar did not pick up many incoming targets but migrants definitely fled this area; activity was picked up as migrants were leaving the area beaches with a SSE direction, taking a SSW turn somewhere near the homestead AG fields. Any shorebirders around there today, Manfredi we would love to hear from you. Migrants were entering the Miami radar in the late morning hours which should equate to new faces around today. Inland location such as Lucky Hammock, Indian Hammocks, Castellow, Chekika etc should be your best bet. Coastal hot spots should also be holding migrants but in smaller numbers than inland migrant traps. The Upper, Mid and Lower keys should also have some new faces around today; the majority of the targets seem to have made it into the lower keys. Good birding to all and enjoy the migrants while they are around. Pass by badbirdz2 to see what was happening overhead last night, let us know what's out there, as this website functions best when it is a collaborative effort!
