Today was very good for birds, with more than usual.
A highlight was pictures of 4 Chestnut-fronted Macaws within 5-10 feet from me for about 30 minutes feeding, giving me great digital photos.
I stopped in a small park along Biscayne Boulavard,
I think 64th street, and birded a little area with lots of oaks. There I had 4 Prairie Warblers, 1 male Redstart, 1 Yellow-throated Warbler, and about a dozen Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. I think the total amount of Gnatcatchers in the park could have numbered 200, because the large park was "buzzing" by the calls of the gnatcatchers in all 50 oak trees. It was frustrating to try to find warblers in between all the gnatcatchers moving around. Even though the park was great for birds, the park has a high crime rate and I was not comforable with all the people hanging around the park, watching my every move. I would not suggest coming here to bird, but I was just at the enterance with my dad watching. Other birds seen were 2 more Chestnut-fronted Macaws, 2 Red-masked Parakeets, many White-winged and Monk Parakeets, Bank Swallows, a flock of 17 White-winged Doves, a Cooper's Hawk, and the usual. I can't wait for the new TAS walks!
